Hyperhidrosis is a condition when the body's thermal regulation system (perspiration) becomes overactive.
The body uses perspiration to help regulate body temperature. It comprises two main sweat glands – the Eccrine and Apocrine glands. At times, and in some individuals, these glands may become overactive. Classic locations of Hyperhydrosis are the face, underarms, hands, and feet.
In the opinion of most physicians, the condition of Hyperhydrosis is considered a physiological problem, not a psychological one. Historically, treatments have mainly been surgical; these treatments offer relief but have lasting side effects.
Only within the last few years has the use of Botox in treating Hyperhydrosis and without the side effects associated with surgical treatments. A quick 10-minute treatment can dramatically reduce excessive sweating. Botox blocks the nerves to sweat glands, thus reducing the activity of the glands.
Botox treatments can be effective in high-stress situations when being your best is essential – such as a job interview, wedding, or public event.
